How Long Does it Take to Get Dentures?

Getting yourself a set of dentures is more like having a bespoke suit made for you. You select a cloth you like, give your measurements, wait for a while and take a trial, and finally, take delivery of your suit.

More importantly, it also depends much on the health and physical condition of your teeth, gums and the inside of the mouth in general. If some or all your natural teeth are badly affected, they may need to be removed first.

Once you get any affected teeth removed, you can get your dentures after a wait of four weeks or so. That much time will help the insides of your mouth to heal. When they return to normal healthy condition and become ready to receive the dentures, your dentist will give you a schedule for fixing the dentures.

To start with, your dentist may require one visit for examination and any diagnostics required. Then, he has to take impressions of the mouth, pictures and dimensions. Next off, the dentures are designed to fit you. You have to try them and tell your doctor of any discomfort or difficulty. Once you are fine with them, you get the final dentures for fitting.

The whole process also depends a lot on the type of dentures you will need, whether you are going to have partial or complete dentures. A few weeks or so after fixing the dentures, your dentist will examine if the dentures fit properly and also how well you are adjusting to your dentures.

As you can see, it’s a little time consuming process. Two things will keep you waiting: after getting the natural teeth removed you wait while your gums are healing; after giving your mouth impressions, you need to wait while the dentures are made for you.

Overall, you will be making several visits to your dentists over a period of around 4 weeks by which time you will be equipped with a perfectly fitting set of dentures that you are comfortable with. The process can be expedited to complete in a few days time in some cases too. As I already said, this will vary from person to person, the type of dentures. It also depends to great extent on the expertise of your dentist.
